Mindfulness and Ubuntu Course

mindful communication

Full body listening and speaking

STEPPING UP! is an Ubuntu and Mindfulness course for caregivers of children.  Caregivers will rediscover their self mastery and humanity through this 30 hour learning course. With the practice, caregivers of children (parents, guardians, grandparents, teachers etc.) will become more present, relaxed and aware.  And as a result of the mindful presence of caregivers, the children with whom they are in contact can experience more moments of self mastery and humanity.

Caregivers will also be able to share mindfulness and ubuntu practices and activities.

For over 30 years now secular mindfulness has been used in three areas: health care, mental health, and education. Research  (Posner and Colleagues 2015) confirms persons who practice mindfulness are able to manage emotion, control attention, and be more aware of themselves; all of which leads to self management.

Mindfulness is a practice originated in Buddhism. It has been made secular and practiced for almost 30 years in hospitals in the United States first and subsequently in other countries. Mindfulness practices have since been offered in mental health institutions and schools worldwide.

The  news is young children and youth will improve learning as a result of these main benefits of mindfulness:

  • Better focus and concentration
  • Increased sense of calm
  • Decreased anxiety and stress
