The holistic, healing, and empowering potential of yoga
Traditional Yoga techniques (asana, pranayama, mudra, bandha) can be selected, adapted, and modified respectfully to suit the needs of the individual. Understand the impact of stress on the different systems of the body, and psychologically; learn how stress exacerbates chronic diseases, and why yoga is helpful in reducing stress and suffering. Experience simple yoga for wellness.
Preclassical and Classical yoga components
Yoga philosophy and history is essential to the understanding the practice, purpose, and results of yoga. Theory informs practice, and contributes to self-understanding, self transformation, and self transcendence. Beyond Hatha yoga asana and breathing, experience how Patanjali’s yoga sutras offer a model for psycho-spiritual maturation, as you delve into deeper aspects of your being through these teachings. These practices bring harmony within and improve relationships. An excellent preparation for teaching deeper practices.
Ayurvedic view of the body and mind
Ayurveda teaches us how to establish ourselves in ourselves. Experience the fundamentals of this sister science of yoga, and transform more than your practice and teaching of yoga. Experience how the elements possess us and influence our teaching. In addition study how to conduct a pulse assessment useful for staying in touch with your own physiology in order to make appropriate changes to lifestyle, diet, and yoga practice. Study marma therapy for increasing flexibility in the joints, the flow of energy, and spiritual growth.
Detailed instruction on how to teach yoga methodologies
To facilitate safe, therapeutic teaching, you will learn modifications, hands-on adjustments, preparatory postures, vinyasa series, linking pranayama with asanas, avoiding injury, chair yoga, partner poses, and the biomechanics of asanas. You will also learn gentle movement and techniques for subtle anatomy including somatic, restoratives, relaxation, concentration and meditation, addressing the needs of all aspects of the human being.
Teaching essentials
To gain invaluable experience in sharing yoga philosophy and practice, you complete a practicum in your community. The process: create an 8-week class outline, have that program approved by the principle instructor before teaching the program. After teaching each class, share your experience with the principle instructor, your mentor.
The Business of Yoga
Identify your unique gift, vision and mission and let your service be an expression of creativity, joy, balance, and empowerment. An anti-oppressive perspective is included in this program. Learn to create safer non-oppressive spaces by being more mindful of inclusive business and professional practices. Gain tools for marketing and promoting your service in alignment with your values.
