September has arrived and that means, National Yoga Month in America.  The purpose of National Yoga Month is to educate and inspire people on the health benefits and yoga lifestyle. The awareness campaign consists of yoga classes, concerts and other special events during September to celebrate National Yoga Month and inspire people to practice yoga and to create a more balanced lifestyle.

There’s a bunch of different ways to celebrate National Yoga Month.  Here’s a few ways to enjoy, promote and partake this September.

1.)    Take a class:  If you haven’t ever been to a yoga class, and want to see what it’s all about, this is the chance to do it.  Expose yourself to what it’s all about.  Give it a shot, find a class in your area and sign up.

2.)    Do some research: Read articles, blogs or books on different yoga therapies, classes and techniques.  Educate yourself on what yoga is about or how to become better.  Get in the right mindset.  Subscribe to a podcast and listen to it, see what experts have to say, or what they can teach.

3.)    Talk to others about it: Talk to your friends, families or coworkers about yoga.  If they’re on the fence about trying it or getting involved, convince them it’s a good idea or bring them to a class to try out.

4.)    Try something new: If you already take part in yoga or go to classes regularly, try something new.  Whether it be a new pose, or technique.  You can never learn too much.

5.)    Buy yourself a gift: Take time this month to buy yourself a gift and give yourself something new.  Reward yourself and enjoy the month for what it is.

No matter what you do this month, take time to enjoy the benefits yoga has to offer.  Since 2008, the Department of Health and Human Services has recognized this month as a national health observance.  Since then, the initiative has taken root as a global awareness campaign, educating, inspiring and motivating people to achieve a healthy lifestyle.
